Amoroso String Trio is a Waikato based music group, comprising of Gloria White, Mary Smith and Anne-Marie Bird.
Brought together through their love of music, teaching at the international social development programme Sistema Waikato, Gloria, Mary and Anne-Marie saw an opportunity to share their passion for music even further! Amoroso String Trio have played at weddings, corporate business evenings, as well as birthday parties, high teas and charity events. Amoroso has wide range of styles and genres to suit any occasion, including classical, jazz, Celtic and modern pop arrangements.
Amoroso String Trio proudly supports Music Moves Me Trust, a non-profit aimed at offering high-quality, interactive music and music therapy to people living with dementia in an effort to help them maintain function, access memory and connect with those around them.
Meet the Musicians
Gloria White (Violin)
Gloria White has played the violin since she was 6 years old. In the past, she has played in various ensembles, orchestras and bands and sought out her love of Celtic and folk music during her travels to Scotland and Europe. She completed her grade 8 violin at the age of 15. She enjoys composing and arranging music in particular reflecting her love of nature. She holds a Bachelor of Outdoor Education and works for Sistema Waikato, a hamilton based music and social development programme.
Mary Smith (Violin)
Mary started playing the violin at the age of 4. She has toured with the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra around Europe and the USA and currently enjoys playing for the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and currently works as an Occupational Therapist. Mary enjoys sharing her love of music with others, teaching at the Hamilton Community Centre of Music and Sistema Waikato.
Anne-Marie Bird (Cello)
Anne-Marie graduated with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Cello Performance from the University of Waikato in 2015. Her passion for music has taken her around New Zealand and Australia performing in various ensembles and groups. She is the senior tutor at Sistema Waikato, having previously been involved with the Sistema Aotearoa programme in Otara, Auckland.
